Matt got his start in underwater photography after he purchased a DSLR camera for his work as a dentist. After spending some time playing around with this new camera, he found that he had a real interest in photography. He was fascinated by the ocean, and especially sharks, from a young age, so he decided to take his new love of photography underwater and start photographing marine animals. His first major trip was to Cocos Island, Costa Rica. There he was able to interact with sharks as well as other marine wildlife, and he was immediately hooked. He began learning about many different species that he wanted to photograph, and he set out finding where to do.

A few years, and many airline miles later, he took an interest in fashion, editorial, and portrait photography. This in turn led to taking those photo shoots underwater, and a new area of focus.

Matt lives in Franklin, TN, a suburb of Nashville, with his wife and 2 children. When not photographing subjects underwater, he is often finding a way to photograph Arctic landscapes.
